PastyFest 2009

  pastyfest poster

This not-for-profit community organization requested a poster to advertise their annual festival celebrating the local heritage of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Pasties are a meat and vegetable stuffed pastry traditional to the mining heritage in Cornwall and later the Upper Peninsula. Since rutagas are often a primary ingredient, I decided to make the lowly rutabaga the star feature of this year's poster.

Community Development Poster   community development poster

As a newcomer to a tiny Michigan town (and as an urban exile) I wanted to find ways to put my skills to use for the betterment of the community. One fun way is to be the designer for the Copper City Community Improvement Association. Working for free has never been so gratifying.

Sustainability Event Poster
Keweenaw Sustainability Poster

An environmental interest group located in the Keweenaw Peninsula needed to publicize an upcoming event on sustainability and community development. Using photos I have taken of the stark and beautiful winter landscape of upper Michigan as a backdrop, I created simple and eye-catching posters and announcements for this event.
